Coming to an end....for this time around.

Greetings!!!!

It's been a while since I've blogged, so here's an update as to what's happening on this side of the world. As you all may know, I began my contract here in Korea in March '06, the contract was for one year, however we were unable to find a replacement as quickly as we had hoped, so I extended my contract 2 months in order to help out the school until they found another teacher. So I will, at the very latest, be in Canada at the begining of May. BUT, I had such a great time and experience here (the money wasn't too bad either), I've decided to come back for another year. I wanted to work at a different school and live in a different area, just for a change. So I started looking for jobs a while ago, and found a great job in the city of Anyang. I worked it out with the driector that I start at the end of June, so I will have a good two months of resting and relaxing at home and catching up on some Deanne time in Canada, and hopefully a trip to Rome as well. Then after the 2 months it's back to S. Korea for another year! I'm very excited about this new job, the hours are great and it's all kindergarten!!!! They are sooooo adorable!!!

A cute story with my current kindergarteners: I was teaching them emotions, e.g she's/he's happy, she's/he's sad, etc. and I was doing the actions of someone crying to teach them "she's crying," One of my favorite students shot up his hand and was so excited that he knew the answer, then when I called on him he shouted "SHE'S RAINING!!" It was sooooo cute!!!

I've still been doing a lil touring, here are some recent pictures I've taken:

This is a huge wicker dragon outside the Yongsan subway station.

This is a picture of my coworker's wedding. She married an American who was also teaching over here. They are moving to Wisconsin in April. The wedding was a mix of a traditional Korean wedding and a western wedding. They are both wearing the traditional Korean Hanbok. Koreans wear this for weddings and also for Chuseok (their Thanksgving).

This is a picture of the changing of the Royal guards ceremony. This ceremony takes place in front of every palace and gate in Seoul, three times a day. This ceremony is in front of the main gate to Gyeongbokgung Palace. Gyeongbokgung served as the main palace until 1592 when it was burnt down during the Japanese invasions. It lay in ruins for almost 300 years and was rebuilt in 1865 by Heungseon Daewongun.

This is a picture of me stading next to some hanging art work. The artwork in this particular place changes frequently and is always very interesting. The pieces behind me are skirts that appear to be floating in the sky.

Here is some more artwork in the same area. These appeared to be some sort of serving trays that had been decorated with colorful pictures. They spun around in the wind.

I'll keep you posted as my last few months wind down!!!
